Happy New Year: Looking Ahead to 2023 and Back at 2022
Today is our first working day after the Lunar New Year holiday, and we wish everyone a happy Year of the Rabbit! Last year brought its share of ups and downs across the industry, but we were fortunate to have a wonderful group of clients and partners who walked with us into 2023. As is our tradition, here are the major initiatives we took on last year:
A More Systematic Approach to Professional Development
- In-house courses: We have long encouraged our team to attend external talks and conferences. Starting this year, we are also inviting industry instructors to run private courses tailored to the team's needs, covering security, machines, system design, environment upgrades and more, as we work toward developing every team member into a full-stack engineer. - Negotiation and communication training for PMs.
- In-depth leadership training for managers.
- Regular internal tech talks and technical articles, so every team member can share what they have learned and discovered at work. Even when we are not on the same project, we have a better sense of what others are doing and what we should learn next.
Making Team Building a Regular Practice
Beyond deepening our knowledge, we place great importance on building rapport and friendship within the team. In 2022 we organized an escape room, calla lily picking on Yangmingshan, team go-kart racing, a Christmas party and more, so that teammates from different countries and backgrounds could form deeper bonds through spending time together.
Outlook for 2023
The pandemic forced industries to digitize, which led to an unprecedented shortage of software talent. Yet once hiring catches up, demand still has to adjust to actual market conditions and the broader economy. The wave of software layoffs that began in mid-2022 cooled the market and brought supply and demand back to normal levels, so we remain optimistic.
The products that survive are the ones that best solve real pain points in the market. That has never changed.
Whether we are running products for our clients or running our own, this is what we firmly believe.
Our goals for this year are:
- Expanding the market for the SOSI remote connection management system: a lightweight solution for companies that frequently need to connect from external networks into their internal networks, letting them monitor operations and secure connection behavior right at the source. With development now at a milestone, we are actively looking for system integrators to partner with.
- Helping clients go to market: Last year we helped several teams complete their MVPs, with promising results in early testing. This year, in the same spirit with which we have helped clients grow products from MVP to large-scale commercial software, we will help our clients capture market share more effectively.
- Careers and engineer development: Building on last year's career talks, this year we will create more content to help full-stack engineers grow on their own, in the hope of fostering a healthier cycle in the tech community. The software industry can only get better when more people join and thrive. We sincerely look forward to seeing Taiwanese engineers continue to shine on the world stage!
